REGISTER 2 VOTE
TAN is committed to ensure that students have enriching and high-quality educational experiences, including promoting youth civic engagement. Many of our kids in afterschool and summer programs are approaching the age where they have both the right and civic responsibility to vote. So, we are proud to partner with the TN Secretary of State’s Office to help more young people in our state register and vote for their very first time. To make that happen, we are conducting a social media campaign with the Secretary’s office July through October. For more information and to download social media materials, go to http://www.tnafterschool.org/register2vote/. For more information about the program itself, go to https://govotetn.gov/.
MILLION GIRL MOONSHOT (MGM)
You will find the MGM materials on the Afterschool Alliance’s Communications Toolkit page at https://afterschool.nptoolkit.org/ near the bottom. Try to bookmark the page so you don’t lose it. You can also find all the MGM social media assets and graphics at http://www.tnafterschool.org/about/afterschool-stem/million-girls-moonshot/. The social media assets here are designed to be used in conjunction with the content package here for dissemination between July 1-31, 2021. If the material is not dated, it can be used beyond the dates noted.
HELPKIDSRECOVER.ORG
A new website, HelpKidsRecover.org, serves as a resource for local and state education agencies on using American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth by partnering with community-based afterschool and summer programs. Follow this link http://www.tnafterschool.org/helpkidsrecover-org-and-arp/ for more information as well as social media materials to help make programs more aware of the resources available to them. This campaign is good through August.
AMERICA AFTER 3 P.M. – A GAME CHANGING SUMMER
These are the major findings for Tennessee and the U.S. regarding summer learning programs. Share this information with your local afterschool and summer learning programs, with your local media and elected officials, and on social media. Suggested social media materials can be found at http://www.tnafterschool.org/top-5-findings-from-the-america-after-3pm-special-report-time-for-a-game-changing-summer/. These campaign materials are good through August.
Monthly Materials Through Afterschool Alliance
Each month Afterschool Alliance publishes a calendar of social media posts for their state networks to use. Since 2020, they have also published a series of Million Girl Moonshot monthly social media calendars. To see these materials and download them, visit the Afterschool Alliance’s Communications Toolkit page at https://afterschool.nptoolkit.org/ and bookmark it so you don’t lose it. Sometimes a month is skipped or the material isn’t released until the middle of the month, so check back frequently. The AA monthly social media calendar will be found under the heading “Engagement Materials and Tools.” Million Girl Moonshot materials will be found under the heading of the same name. As long as you have a Gmail account and Google Drive, you should be able to click on and download the materials.
Building Strong Brains Campaign (BSB)
The BSB campaign from the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth seeks to inform adults on preventing early trauma in children. By using social media to share the science of brain development, toxic stress and ACEs, and ways to build resilience, we are helping change the culture in Tennessee. Empowering everyone with this knowledge allows us to work together to more effectively build a foundation of health for all children and youth. To participate in the campaign, you can do any or all of the following:
- At any time that works for you, post one or more of the messages in the embedded spreadsheets to your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram feeds. (Whether you use your personal or organizational accounts is up to you. Either are appreciated!)
- Like TCCY on Facebook and share the Building Strong Brain posts with your friends.
- Follow @TCCY on Twitter and retweet the Building Strong Brain posts so your followers will see them.
Lights On Afterschool
Beginning in August 2021 we will begin a strong push to enroll afterschool programs in Tennessee. This push will continue through LOA day, which is October 28, 2021. It is our goal to enroll as many or more programs and sites in 2021 as we did in 2019. As soon as we know when the Aftrschool Alliance opens registration in August we will begin sending out promotional materials for your use, including instructions for how to best complete the registration form. As we create and add new materials, you can find them here on the daily blog or on a special events page created just for Lights On Afterschool. Thanks!
