The Father of Black History Month
Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a dedicated historian and Harvard-trained educator created the first Black History celebration in February of 1926. It was originally celebrated as Black History Week to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. It wasn’t until 1976 that this week-long holiday was federally recognized as a month-long celebration. Read blog
